By our reckoning, the Design Research Center is one of less than a dozen facilities in the U.S. with a university affiliation that has been designed and is functioning as a nexus for graduate-level design education and research. The DRC is a place where knowledge is constructed to inform the practice of designing, as well as to help “bridge the gap” between design research and the professional practice of design. The faculty, students and project partners who work in and around the DRC also believe that what we do here improves how evidence-based design processes inform design practice, fuels innovation supported by new forms of knowledge, and helps the design disciplines evolve.
